Ernie “Indio” Sanchez, Army veteran of World War II, was blindsided by PTSD symptoms fifty years after his war. Shamed by the realization that he had killed between fifty and one hundred German soldiers—“sons, brothers, people who were loved”—Sanchez dedicated himself during the final years of his life to healing himself, denouncing war and advocating for peace in his everyday life.
